Publication Ethics

BIMA (Bulletin of Intelligent Machines and Algorithms) is a scholarly publication that features original research contributions that have not been previously published. This statement outlines the code of conduct for all parties involved in the publication process, including journal management, editors, bestiary partners, and authors. The journal adheres to the guidelines set out in the Head of LIPI Regulation Number 5 of 2014, concerning the Code of Ethics for Scientific Publications, which is derived from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). This code provides a framework for dealing with various aspects of publication ethics, especially in relation to handling research and publication cases. Key ethical values upheld by the Bulletin of Intelligent Machines and Algorithms include:

  • Neutrality, ensuring the management of the publication is free from conflicts of interest.
  • Fairness, granting authorship rights to those who are entitled.
  • Honesty, ensuring the publication is free from duplication, fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism (DF2P).

Duties and Responsibilities of the Editor-in-Chief

  • Establish the journal's name, scope, scale, and, if applicable, accreditation.
  • Appoint editorial members.
  • Establish relationships between publishers, editors, collaborators, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all parties involved, including researchers, authors, editors, and partners.
  • Ensure compliance with intellectual property rights.
  • Review and communicate journal policies to authors, editors, collaborators, and readers.
  • Develop a code of conduct for editors and collaborators.
  • Publish the journal on a regular basis.
  • Secure funding sources to ensure the sustainability of the journal.
  • Establish cooperation and marketing networks to promote the journal.
  • Continuously improve the quality of the journal.
  • Taking care of licensing and other legal considerations.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Editor

  • Provide feedback to authors to clarify their writing, ensuring that the message conveyed can be easily understood by readers.
  • Ensure that the author's writing complies with the journal's language standards, such as the use of proper grammar and spelling.
  • Strive to continuously improve the quality of published work.
  • Uphold objectivity in promoting free speech.
  • Communicate necessary corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies.
  • Ensure that content does not involve sensitive issues (such as racial conflict) that could be detrimental to the journal or publisher.
  • Handle complaints and feedback from all parties involved in the publication process.
  • Support initiatives that educate researchers about publication ethics.
  • Avoid maintaining personal opinions or conflicts of interest that could lead to biased decisions.
  • Encourage authors to revise their manuscripts until they are fit for publication.
  • Oversee the layout of manuscripts to ensure they conform to the format requirements of the journal.
  • Assist the editor-in-chief in finalizing manuscript submissions, especially in terms of language, format, and layout.

Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers or Bestari Partners

  • Provide objective and impartial written feedback on the scholarship and scientific contribution of the manuscript.
  • Assess whether the manuscript is clear, complete, and relevant, and whether it fits the scope of the journal.
  • Avoid personal criticism or irrelevant comments.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of the manuscript, refraining from discussing it with unrelated parties or disclosing its contents.

Website Administrator Duties and Responsibilities

The Website Administrator is responsible for managing the online presence of the journal. Specific duties include:

  • Setting up and maintaining the journal's website.
  • Configuring system settings and managing user accounts.
  • Registering editors, reviewers, and authors.
  • Managing journal features and functions.
  • Viewing and analyzing report statistics.
  • Uploading and publishing accepted manuscripts.
